Chateau de La Lanette | Salechan | Travels in France

After a lovely lunch in Toulouse at the French equivalent of a Pizza Express, it was time to return to the car and head down to Saléchan to find Chateau de La Lanette, our home away from home for the next 12 days or so. A short drive down the A64 and towards the rather stunning Pyrenees, we were full of excitement and anticipation. Upon pulling into the Chateau, we were welcomed with a friendly wave from a window and were instantly made to feel like old friends coming for a stay.

First things first, after lugging approximately 750kg of luggage up to our room, we had a little explore. Alex took no time at all to discover the playroom and The Truck. For the next 12 days, the answer to the question “Where’s Alex?” had a very simple answer. Once the sheer volume of new things to play with had been appreciated, the kids headed to the dining room for their dinner. All of the kids eat together before a bit of a play and then bedtime so the adults can sit, relax, have a glass of wine and indulge themselves with Heathers heavenly cooking. Anyone wondering why I didn’t want to come home?!

The next day involved more exploring of the grounds of the Chateau, a quick walk through the village and a play in the pool. There was plenty for the kids to do and after a couple of days travelling it was great to just spend the day doing a whole lot of nothing, relaxing in the sunshine whilst the kids were having fun. You could feel the stresses and strains of every day life just disappear in the surroundings of the gorgeous French countryside. The backdrop of the Pyrenees was truly beautiful and sitting on the steps on an evening, looking out over the mountains with a cold beer in hand, waiting to be called to a sumptuous dinner, it was hard to imagine how life gets much better.
