Outside it was a beautiful, if bitterly cold, sunny day. After a quick shot outside their home we headed over to Lovekyn Chapel for their ceremony. As I mentioned, I’d not been to Lovekyn Chapel before. A small chapel nestled right in the heart of Kingston Upon Thames, you almost wouldn’t notice it if you weren’t looking for it. Very pretty inside, fairly tight for space but it leads to a nice intimate ceremony. You could see the Riki was nervous, and not just because he was checking his heart rate on a monitor! There was no need to worry though, the ceremony went perfectly.

There’s not too much space outside so we quickly headed off the the Hand and Flower in Richmond for the reception. Located on the edge of Ham Common, Katie, Riki and I went to grab some shots of the two of them whilst people arrived at the pub. It was so cold that we didn’t stay for long. Riki spotted an old Austin Seven being driven up the road and ran after them and managed cadge a lift back to the pub. In the warmth the day continued, a little bit of chatting and relaxing before the food was served. After this were the speeches, where poor Colin was reminded of his earlier blunder. The speeches were followed by a song from Riki dedicated to Katie, this was reciprocated later with Katie showing her Burlesque Dancing skills! After plenty of Karaoke and dancing, the evening was rounded off with a display by Riki and his friends, all fire performers, over on the common. One thing the day could never be described as is ordinary!

We met up a while back for their Pre-Wedding Shoot in Isabella Plantation. It was good to catch up and go through the plans for the day and, as always, meant that when I turned up on the wedding day there was a much more relaxed atmosphere. The bridal prep took place at the Richmond Gate Hotel, just outside Richmond Park. As with all my September weddings this year, we were blessed with gorgeous sunshine! Jo was incredibly calm and relaxed and before we knew it it was time for the short drive to Pembroke Lodge for the ceremony and reception.

Once at Pembroke Lodge, I met up with Dom as the guests all mingled on the gorgeous terrace taking in the breathtaking views over South West London and the River Thames. Shortly after, the bridesmaids arrived signalling the time for every to enter The Belvedere to wait for Jo to arrive. It’s a fantastic room for a civil ceremony and was beautifully decorated.

After the ceremony it was back out to the terrace to make the most of the late summer/early autumn sunshine. The group shots were done and dusted pretty quickly, allowing everyone to get on with enjoying the day before heading in for the wedding reception. Some really great speeches followed, after which the room was turned around for the evening reception. It’s an amazing room for the evening, lovely ambient light and the LEDs in the ceiling make for some very special first dance shots. The dance floor was then packed for the rest of the evening giving me loads of opportunities for some fantastic dance shots and great reactions in one of my favourite parts of the day.

The day started at the beautiful Warren House in Kingston for the bridal prep. With Rachel, 5 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, her Mum and 2 make-up artists it was brilliantly busy with a fantastic vibe going on as everyone was getting themselves prepared for the day ahead. Once all were sorted, we headed over to Sacred Heart Church in Wimbledon.

Sacred Heart is, quite frankly, stunning. It’s absolutely huge, full of intricate gothic architectural details and makes a wonderful setting for a wedding. The ceremony went smoothly and Rachel and Kevin had a string quartet play during the signing of the registry which was beautiful and the sound filled the church perfectly.

After a quick congratulations from their guests outside, everyone returned to Warren House for the remainder of the day. Another glorious sunny day meant that full advantage could be taken of the lovely grounds at Warren House, with the guests free to mingle and chat in the stunning surroundings.

The speeches were really lovely and I am sure from his reaction Kevin got let off pretty lightly by his 2 best men. This was followed the cutting of the cake and, a first for me, a double bouquet toss. A double as the first effort was a one in a million shot that saw the bouquet stuck in the lighting wires! Thankfully a bridesmaids bouquet was brought in as a standby and the second attempt was successful!

A definite bonus is, relatively speaking, Warren House is right on my doorstep so a nice short trip saw me arrive in plenty of time for the bridal prep. Exiting the car I noticed something rather unusual. I didn’t seem to be getting wet, in fact, not only was it not raining – it was sunny!!! For the first time this year I left my suit jacket in the car! I didn’t shoot at Warren House last year so it was nice to see the changes they have made internally. The new reception area looks great and a lot more inviting. I headed on up to meet up with Hollie as she and her bridesmaids were all getting ready in the Bridal Suite. It’s a great room with loads of space for me to move around without getting in the way or becoming a distraction.

Downstairs I met up with Anthony and got ready for the ceremony. It’s a great venue for a civil ceremony with huge great windows letting in swathes of light. After the ceremony, outside we headed to make the most of the sunshine! Waiting for the guests was an ice cream bike, this proved incredibly popular with the guests as they watched Anthony and Hollie playing a giant game of connect4. Anthony did the honourable thing and made sure he won!

After the wedding breakfast, the evening reception got underway. Once Anthony and Hollie had finished the first dance, the girls all got on the dance floor and I’m not sure they ever left it! I started the day over at their house in Surbiton where Sarah was getting ready. The sun was out, everyone was relaxed, having fun and it was the perfect start to the day. The atmosphere was incredibly chilled and everything went to plan and easily on time. Once everyone was sorted and into the cars (thankfully not forgetting the flowers) we headed off to Ham Polo Club for the rest of the day.

I’ve not shot at Ham Polo Club before so was really pleasantly surprised when I arrived. It’s a gorgeous venue with loads of natural light and lots of space both inside and out. Whilst waiting for Sarah to finish her interview with the registrars, I was getting some detail shots and it occurred to me that there was this easy elegance to the theme of the day that. As the day progressed, I realised summed up Sarah and Ali entirely. It was all very beautiful. The ceremony was lovely and it was plain to see just how much they meant to each other.

After the ceremony everyone took full advantage of the sunshine and went out onto the deck above the polo club for drinks. The kids had great fun watching the horses being exercised and the planes coming in to land at Heathrow! After spending some time chatting and enjoying the sun (and a ‘gentle’ breeze), the guests made their way back downstairs for the wedding breakfast whilst I grabbed a couple of quick shots of Sarah and Ali together. The speeches were great and gave a wonderful impression of just how much their friends think of them both. This was all followed by enthusiastic use of the dance floor!

I’ve spent ages trying to narrow down the selection for the blog, quite frankly I gave up. There was just too much going on and I have already had to miss out loads that I would have loved to have posted. It was an absolutely brilliant day with some of the nicest people I could ever hope to work with.

The bridal prep took place in East Molesey at Marions parents house which meant a fantastically short journey. If I hadn’t needed the car later I would have walked it, especially as after the wettest year I have ever had for weddings we were blessed with glorious sunshine and temperatures that actually suited June! As I often find with bridal preps, the atmosphere was excited with a just a little hint of nerves. It’s a great way to start the day and always a lot of fun.

When everyone was ready I jumped in the car and headed over the bridge to the outstanding Hampton Court House. It’s hidden down a small private road just by Hampton Court Palace and if you didn’t know it was there it would be very easy to miss! It’s is a beautiful venue with gorgeous views out over Bushy Park. It’s not often you shoot a wedding and can look out of the huge windows and see deer strolling around outside! There is also the slightly unusual Shell Grotto in the grounds, where we just had to get a shot of Marion and Henry. I don’t think I have ever seen anything quite like it! The rest of the day went smoothly, everyone taking full advantage of the beautiful weather and the stunning grounds.

Bridal prep was full of that last minute, trying to make sure everything is sorted buzz. Thankfully it all went to plan, Michelle’s friends doing a wonderful job of sorting out all those little bits and pieces. Once ready, everyone piled into the Limo and we headed off to the Parish Church of St Mary the Blessed Virgin, a short drive down the road. As we got there, as Michelle was getting ready to head into the church, one of the pageboys dropped one of the wedding rings into a gap between two flagstones. Thankfully some levelheaded calmness (at least on the outside) from the ushers, a bit of prodding and levering with some twigs and sticks and the ring was retrieved seconds before Michelle walked round the corner. Crisis averted and we headed into one of the prettiest churches I have been in. The beautiful rear wall reminded me a lot of the Russian Orthodox Church in Chiswick I photographed back for Sergei and Evgeniya a couple of years ago. The rest of the service went without issue and we returned to Addington Palace for the reception.

Luckily, although not quite as sunny as you would hope for in June, the weather was holding which meant the kids could go and let off some steam on the bouncy castle whilst the adults chatted and relaxed in the various grand rooms in the stunning 18th century manor house. After a wonderful meal, the speeches were heartfelt and emotional. Michelle and Randy have a really strong community of friends and it showed throughout the day. This was followed by the first dance and then a Candy Dance which saw the dance floor packed out – always great for a photographer!

After the bridal prep we headed off to the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Send. A stunning little church down a little country lane. The ceremony was lovely and the church itself very intimate and pretty. A little bit of rain wasn’t able to put a dampener on the proceedings and I think Alex actually appreciated the excuse to have an umbrella to shield himself from all the confetti as they left!

From here we went to the beautiful Loseley Park near Guildford. A beautiful manor house, Loseley Park is still an actual residence, with the wedding taking place in the 17th century Tithe Barn just next door to the main house. As the weather still wasn’t playing ball we were allowed a couple of shots up at the manor house, after which we returned to the barn for the rest of the reception.

The reception itself was great, lots of laughter and banter which gives plenty of opportunities for great candid shots. The speeches were outstanding, Jackies sister Lindsay made a sort of collage depicting Jackie which certainly got some strange looks when she first took it out and then Alex’s best man Matt breaking the cardinal rule of “You don’t talk about the stag night” – although to be fair, the picture of Alex in a wheelchair and dressed in Lederhosen would have been too much for anyone to resist sharing.

Overall an utterly fantastic day with a really love couple and a wonderful set of guests. Here is a fairly hefty selection of my favourite shots from the day, it was very hard to narrow them down! The day itself went wonderfully, Nick and Jodie were an absolute pleasure to work with and it was one of those days where there is always something going on which, as a documentary wedding photographer, makes my life very easy. Painshill Park has lots and lots of opportunities for photography and the walled garden which contains the Conservatory is beautiful. The speeches were superb and Nicks brother, despite claims of nervousness, produced a wonderful speech and showed his true colours as a natural performer! There were lots of lovely little details and the cake itself was a work of art (made by a close friend of theirs) and I loved the cake stand/wood log.

For the evening they had a Ceilidh band (Licence to Ceilidh – who were brilliant) which guaranteed a packed dance floor from start to finish. I love the look of panic/determination/mayhem that ceilidh dancing brings to the proceedings, especially for the guys that get on the dance floor. It was obvious though that a great time was had by all which always translates to a fantastic set of images.

It was fantastic to see so many people there for their wedding which went without a hitch. After the ceremony was over, we headed up to the No 8 bar to get some photos and sneaked out on the roof! Gorgeous views from there over the river and the parkland beyond.

It was a pleasure to be part of such a great day with a really lovely couple!
