As I said in the sneak peek for this wedding, it was a really great start to the year. I only met Katy and Luis just before Christmas as they live out in Paraguay, thankfully it was obvious from the moment I met them what a lovely couple they were.

After a week of horrendous weather, I was delighted to wake up to clear blue skies and the sort of day that you can only dream about for a January wedding. I drove over to Katys parents (rather stunning) house in Dorney Reach for the bridal prep, where everyone was as cool and as calm as can be. A few detail shots, including those incredible Irregular Choice shoes and the beautiful english flowers for the bouquets, a bit of bridal prep and off we went to St Josephs in Maidenhead for the ceremony. Full catholic mass, a choir and some musical interludes (including Katys brother on the violin) all bathed in gorgeous winter light was followed by some drinks and chat in the accompanying church hall afterwards.

From here we headed over to the amazing Hall Place for the reception. It’s a really beautiful venue with fantastic staff and set the scene for a really lovely afternoon and evening. There were some really lovely little details for the reception, from the Wish Tree to the little moss covered chalk board table names (and of course the amazing Weddington Boots), to the unique Cheesecake, so for a detail junky like me, I was in heaven.

It was a real pleasure to be a part of the day, hopefully I have done it some justice! Now on to the pictures…

A fantastic start to the New Year is the best way to describe Katy & Luis wedding. A gorgeous sunny (and surprisingly warm) winters day filled St Josephs Church in Maidenhead with streams of golden light, before we headed off to the beautiful Hall Place in Berkshire to celebrate for the rest of the day.

Hotel Russell | London Christmas Wedding | Kate and Tim

My last wedding of 2011, and what a way to finish! From the moment I first met Kate and Tim many months ago I knew it was going to be a fantastic day and they proved me right.

I was running a little early (as I tend to) so headed over to meet up with Kate at Bibas Hair and Beauty to catch the end of the hair and makeup. This was followed by a quick nip round to Waitrose – certainly a first for me as a wedding photographer! We then headed back to the utterly stunning Hotel Russell for the remainder of the prep.

From here, a short walk up the road (for me at least) to St Pancras Parish Church which was amazing. A beautiful church with no end of architectural detail and a hugely impressive entrance just screaming out for a shot of the bride and groom in front of those gorgeous great red doors.

Another quick run (quite literally, as I legged it down Woburn place to catch up with Kate and Tim in their bridal taxi) back to the Hotel Russell to grab a couple of portraits in Russell Square before the reception. Thankfully, the snow that had caused so many issues last year did not return, instead we were blessed with a lovely, sunny winters day.

The remainder of the day was spent enjoying and capturing the atmosphere of family and friends who, quite rightly, have a lot of love and affection for Kate and Tim. As I said at the start, what a wonderful end to the year.

Dartmouth House | London Wedding Photographer | Sara & Will

Some days are just made for weddings, and this late October Saturday was one of them. Beautifully clear skies and gorgeous sunshine is always a good way to start the day, and at that time of year it makes for some really beautiful light.

I met up with Sara at the Independent MindBodySoul Aveda Salon in Balham for the bridal prep, followed by a quick trip back to their flat to grab a couple of detail shots. After that I headed over to Dartmouth House for the rest of the day. Will was found having a quick, pre-wedding drinks at The Only Running Footman a couple of doors down before heading back for the ceremony and the proper start of a wonderful day.

It was a really wonderful wedding in a beautiful location, we also had access to Berkley Square for some post ceremony shots of Will and Sara in some stunning autumnal light. The wedding speeches took place in the ornate stairwell before the meal, top marks go to will for a superb speech without so much as a note for guidance!

The dance floor was packed from about 15 seconds into Will and Sara’s (ever so slightly unusual) first dance (Da Do Ron Ron for those wondering!) which is how I love the evenings to be.

All in all an utterly fantastic day with some really great people. I love my job! Now for a picture or two…..

Wedding Photography in Hampshire | Lizi & James

After a week of weather checking, finger crossing and lots of sun dances, it was a stunning day as I headed down the M3 back to my home town of Southampton to photograph the wedding of Lizi and James. Often, bridal prep is one of my favourite parts of the day and as I was welcomed into Lizi’s home it was obvious why. Loads of excitement and positive energy flying around in a house bustling with brothers, sisters, grans, granddads, aunties, nieces, Mums and Dads, friends and probably a few more I have missed out, it was a fantastic start to the day.

Lizi was as relaxed and chilled as I think it is possible to be! Once everyone was ready, a short trip round the corner to Highfield Church where Lizi and her father parked at the vicarage before a final stroll over to the church. A wonderful church service was followed by a couple of shots outside and then back into the church for a tea party!

Tea consumed, cakes eaten and we headed over to Sunnyfields Farm for the reception. It was the first time I had been to a venue with a green carpet flanked by tractors for a wedding, thankfully Lizi and James were as keen as I was to get them into a tractor for a couple of shots!

All in all it was a really fantastic day with a wonderful couple and a lovely family. Days like that make it obvious that I have the best job in the world!

Burrows Lea | Surrey Wedding Photography | Ellie & Alistair

Checking the forecast all week before Ellie and Alistairs big day, it was not looking great. Heavy rain forecast for the Saturday. On the morning, I awoke to grey skies but it was dry, feeling grateful I jumped in the car to head to Ellies house for the bridal prep and the drizzle started. By the time I got there, the rain was pouring, the wind was howling, but thankfully everyone was still in great spirits. With a bride, 5 bridesmaids, a Mum, Dad, Brother, and 2x soon to be Sister-in-laws all getting ready there was that wonderful buzz that makes the bridal prep one of my favourite parts of the day. Ellie was cool, calm and collected and it was a great way to spend the morning.

From there it over to Reigate Baptist Church where I arrived to a jam packed car park but managed to find a sneak space near the door. With a couple of guys from the church helping with umbrellas we were soon sorted and the ceremony was underway to a packed house of eager participants. As the service progressed, I noticed the clouds were clearing and the rain easing away, perfect!

A quick couple of group shots outside the church and Ellie and Alistair were into the stunning old Riley to be whisked away to Burrows Lea Country House, just outside of Shere in Surrey. Here we got to bask in glorious sunshine for the remainder of the day, with only a couple of small rain showers that also gave us some truly stunning skies and rainbows. I always seem to get something a little special at Burrows Lea. Photographing the bride and groom overlooking the fields with a rainbow in the distance is certainly a pretty rare opportunity!!

It was a really fantastic day, with lots of involvement of the guests and an obvious, huge amount of love for Ellie and Alistair that was plain for anyone to see and that made it a really special day to be a part of.

This past weekend saw me back at the magnificent Burrows Lea Country House in Shere, Surrey, for the wedding of Ellie and Alistair. It was a wonderful day with a really lovely couple. The monsoon style rain even managed to clear at times which not only afforded the guests the opportunity to spend some time in the beautiful grounds but even provided us with a few stunning rainbows throughout the day!

Tylney Hall | Wedding Photography in Hampshire | Tiyo & Andy

A couple of weeks ago I was at the beautiful Tylney Hall in Hampshire for the wedding of Tiyo and Andrew. When I arrived Tiyo was mostly ready so was taking the opportunity to chill with a nice glass of champagne! Bridal prep was about as calm and collected as I have ever seen and was very almost on schedule! From there it was into the car to head over to Sonning on Thames for the ceremony at the very pretty (and very well tucked away and hidden) St Andrews Church before heading back to Tylney Hall. The weather maintained it’s ‘Glorious’ status which meant we could make full use of the wonderful grounds. All in all it was a fantastic day with wonderfully warm and open hosts and it was a true pleasure to be able to capture the day.

Bickley Manor Hotel | Wedding Photography in Kent | Rob & Cassie

What a day! I have sort of known Rob for a few years through triathlon and was delighted when he asked me to photograph his wedding to Cassie at the lovely Bickley Manor Hotel in Kent. They are both cycling nuts, as can probably be gathered from the fact that all their table names are famous bike climbs, which meant the conversation was flowing from the start! Thankfully their last minute cycling holiday in the alps didn’t leave Cassie with a cyclists tan, or at least one that could be seen with the dress on!

The forecast for the day had been for cloud which unfortunately turned to rain. This stopped us making the most of the large gardens and outdoor space at Bickley Manor, but it certainly didn’t put a dampener on the moods of everyone there. The evening disco was hijacked on a frequent basis to chuck out some dance tunes I certainly hadn’t heard for a while and I give 10 out of 10 for the YMCA dancing!

All in all a superb day and a pleasure to be a part of! Now for a picture or two (or maybe slightly more!)

I’ve now gone through all of Mohammad and Nausheens engagement shoot images, and what a fantastic day it was and in such an unbelievably beautiful setting. I love this part of the UK, the whole of the Jurassic Coast is such an fantastic place to visit and somewhere I need to make more of an effort to get to regularly. We were really lucky with the weather, an utterly gorgeous sunny day with a light breeze to cool it down a bit (which was needed with all the steps up and down to the beach!) Their wedding is this coming Saturday at the Renaissance London Chancery Court Hotel and it should be a really fantastic day that I am thoroughly looking forward to!

Surrey Wedding Photographer | Best of 2010

2010 was a great year with some fantastic weddings and truly wonderful couples. I not only covered weddings in Surrey and London, but also Northamptonshire and even travelled as far as the Lake District! Narrowing down my favourite shots of the year was incredibly hard and a great many shots I love had to get left out (a 3 hour slideshow would have been a bit too long), but hopefully what is left will convey the beauty of the weddings I had the pleasure to attend.

I can’t wait to see what my awesome brides and grooms have in store for this year, if 2011 is even half as good as 2010 it will be a brilliant year!

The Landmark Hotel Wedding | Lali & Greg

At the start of December I had the pleasure of joining Lali and Greg at their gorgeous wedding at The Landmark Hotel in Marylebone, London. The Landmark Hotel is a stunning historic landmark and the central courtyard really takes your breath away.

With a heavy Georgian influence on the wedding breakfast, one of the lovely things was the number of short personal speeches from their many friends. Lali and Greg were a wonderful couple and the love for them from their many friends was clear for all to see and it made for a really touching day.

What a great way to round out 2010′s weddings!

The Landmark Hotel Wedding | Lali & Greg | Sneak Peek

Warren House Wedding | Will & Nicol

The night before Will and Nicols wedding saw me lying in bed, wide awake, listening to a torrential downpour. I’ve been incredibly lucky this year and have had some stunning weather, even those where there has been rain, it has only been a shower here or there and has not really affected the day at all. When the morning eventually rolled around, the rain was still falling, the only consolation was that it was at least no longer a monsoon and the entire wedding was to be held at awesome Warren House in Kingston. This at least meant no-one had to go outside. So off I went to meet up with Nicol for the bridal prep shots.

The bridal suite at Warren House is nothing short of stunning. A huge great bay window lets in swathes of beautiful natural light, even when the weather outside is less than stellar. I love doing bridal prep and this was a fantastic setting to start the day. Afterwards we headed down to the Ballroom for the ceremony. Once again, another gorgeous room with massive windows. With some unbelievable luck, and contrary to every forecast I had checked (as if one forecast sucks I keep checking others until I find one I like!), the rain abated and eventually disappeared altogether. After the ceremony, keen to make the most of our luck, we darted outside for the group shots and for Will, Nicol and I to disappear for 10 minutes to grab some shots of just the two of them.

Nicol and Will make a really fantastic couple and I hope they have an awesome 2nd wedding out in Malaysia. They were a wonderful couple to work with and real naturals in front of the camera. This probably explains why I have had such a hard time narrowing down their blog images, so I must apologize as this is a record number of shots to show, even for me!!!

Sandown Park Wedding | Lee & Gavin

One beautifully sunny morning last month saw me photograph the wedding of Lee & Gavin at Sandown Park in Esher, Surrey. It was the morning of a race day, so a nice early start for the ceremony in the owners and trainers area before we had a couple of hours of pretty much freedom before people started arriving for the races. It is certainly quite strange running round a race track (not quite literally) when it is completely deserted, although it did lead to some fantastic photo opportunities.

It was a relatively small and intimate morning, just Lee, Gavin, a few members of family and some of their closest friends. Lee and Gavin were loads of fun and I don’t think they stopped smiling for the entire morning. It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of their day and, judging by the response to the photos last night, I have hopefully done it justice.

Warren House Wedding | Will & Nicol | Sneak Peek

It seems like ages ago that I first spoke to Will and Nicol, yet the time also seems to have flown by. Last weekend saw my last wedding of the year at Warren House in Kingston upon Thames. It really is a wonderful venue that changes so much between seasons that there is always a fresh angle or something new to try.

This was a really beautiful wedding with a fantastic couple and it was wonderful to see how much it all meant to the both of them. Just a quick teaser for now, full blog post in a couple of weeks:

Warren House Wedding | Sergei & Evgeniya

It’s taken a while, but here is the full post for Sergei and Evgeniyas Russian Orthodox Wedding. Both the preparations and the reception were at the stunning Warren House in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey and the ceremony was held at the Russian Orthodox Church in Chiswick.

One of the things I love about this job is that every wedding is different, and this was certainly the case for me. I had never shot a Russian Orthodox wedding before so I was incredibly excited to do so. One of the advantages about being a documentary wedding photographer is that the language barrier (my Russian is awful) is not so much of an issue, you are there to document the day as it unfolds. Through doing so you get to experience fantastic new things and learn a lot about different cultures.

It was an amazing wedding and Sergei and Evgeniya were the perfect hosts, I certainly thoroughly enjoyed the day. I do have to apologise though, I know my blog posts can be long at the best of times, but this one is a monster! Just too many great moments in the day:

Sandown Park Esher Wedding | Lee & Gavin | Sneak Peek

This was always going to be a brilliant day. Taking place at Sandown Park Race Track in Esher, Surrey meant there were loads of opportunities for some unique photographs. Add to that the fact that Lee and Gavin have to be one of the loveliest couples I have ever had the pleasure to meet! The day was filled with fun, laughter and Gavins awesome blue suede shoes. It was an honour to document such a fantastic wedding.

East Molesey Wedding | Natasha & Dave

The last thing Natasha said to me before her wedding day was ‘The only thing I am not stressed about is the photography as I know it will be amazing’. No pressure there then!

The ceremony was just round the corner from my house at St Marys Church in East Molesey. With it being a small service, led by the ever fantastic Carole, it took place in the Chancel which gave the whole thing a wonderfully intimate feel.

Afterwards we headed to the towpath along the River Thames for some portraits of the bride and groom, before returning to the home of Natasha’s parents for the reception and hog roast!

It was a wonderful day, of which I felt honoured to play a part. Enjoy the pics!

Burrows Lea Wedding | Matt & Michelle

On a beautiful weekend in August I flew back from France to cover Matt and Michelle’s wedding at the gorgeous Burrows Lea Country House just outside the picturesque village of Shere in Surrey. I’ve known Matt and Michelle for many years and was delighted to have the honour of being their wedding photographer.

A fantastic, fun couple, the day was always going to be awesome and despite a couple of VERY heavy rain showers the day went really smoothly. Secret talents were revealed on the day, with Nadine showing her amazing flower arranging skills and Alisons gorgeous wedding cake. Add in a delicious BBQ, an Ice Cream van, Chip Butties, local Real Ales and one of the best sunsets of the year and it all added up to a perfect day.

Warren House Wedding | Sergei & Evgeniya | Sneak Peek

This past weekend as I was back at one of my favourite wedding venues, the beautiful Warren House in Kingston upon Thames for the marriage of Sergei and Evgeniya. I was really looking forward to this one as itt was my first Russian Orthodox wedding, with the ceremony performed at the Russian Orthodox Church in Chiswick.

East Molesey Wedding | Natasha & Dave | Sneak Peek

Last Friday was a local wedding for me at St Mary’s Church in East Molesey, just a short walk from my house! It was an incredibly intimate ceremony, with Natasha and Dave getting married with only a few members of family and close friends at the Church, followed by a much larger reception over at Natasha’s parents house afterwards.

City of London Engagement Shoot | Sergei and Jenn

What a fantastic way to spend a Bank Holiday morning this was. Sergei and Jenn are getting married at the wonderful Warren House on Sunday. Now, normally, I tend to do engagement sessions a little more than 6 days before the ceremony, but this was a relatively late booking (just last week in fact) and this was the first day I have had free since I got back from France.

Watching the weather all week I wasn’t sure what to expect, but as it turned out, the sun was shining and the weather was beautiful. We took advantage of the fact it was a Bank Holiday and headed into the City of London as we knew it would be nice and quiet. Other than the fact it took me 20 minutes to find somewhere to get a coffee (it really does shut down around there), it was a brilliant. As with all couples it took a little while for Sergei and Jenn to relax, but this is a large part of the aim of the session, and once warmed up they were great fun.

I am really looking forward to this wedding. Besides being a really wonderful couple, this will be my first Russian Orthodox ceremony which looks absolutely fantastic. Can’t wait for Sunday! In the meantime, enjoy a couple of my favourites from the morning:

South Bank Engagement Shoot | Will & Nicol

I met up with Will and Nicol last Saturday for their engagement shoot on the South Bank. This is one of my all time favourite parts of London so I was really looking forward to this session and I was not disappointed! Will and Nicol were absolutely fantastic. A wonderful couple who were incredibly photogenic and natural in front of the camera. I am really looking forward to seeing WIll and Nicol at their wedding at Warren House in October, it should be an amazing day!

Burrows Lea Wedding – Matt and Michelle eShoot

Burrows Lea Country House is a stunning wedding venue set in the hills of the Surrey Downs just outside the picturesque village of Shere. I met up with Matt and Michelle to have a wander through the grounds to get some location ideas for some beautiful wedding photos next month. As with all engagement shoots, it also helps on the day by allowing them to get comfortable in front of the camera whilst having some fun at the same time.

Matt and Michelle epitomise the perfect couple for a wedding photographer, a great looking couple and loads of fun (even when I get them to sit in a potting shed!). Their wedding should be spectacular, so here is hoping for some great weather and a brilliant day!

Lou and Coenraad – Wedding

As you may have guessed from the sneak peek post, this wedding was a little further away from home than usual for me! In the heart of the Lake District this was always going to be a special wedding, add in some stunning summer sunshine, an awesome group of people and it was a huge amount of fun.

Early morning saw me meeting up with Lou and the girls at her Mums house in Penrith whilst they got ready. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone as cool, calm and collected on their wedding day morning as Lou! Was a fantastic chilled atmosphere. From there it was a short stroll down the road to the beautiful Christ Church for the ceremony with one of the nicest priests I think I have met.

Everyone then jumped on a coach as we headed to the gorgeous Inn on the Lake on the shores of Lake Ullswater. You’d have one heck of a job trying to find a more idyllic setting for a wedding reception and it served as the perfect venue for the end of a wonderful day with a wonderful couple.

Matt and Sandra – Wedding

What an utterly fantastic day with one of the nicest couples you could hope to meet. I met up with Sandra for the bridal preps at the Mary Ann Weeks salon in Walton. A really lovely salon and Sandra and the girls had the upstairs to themselves. From there it was on to Sandras house for the bridal prep and a quick coffee before heading off to meet up with Matt and the ushers at the beautiful St Pauls Church in East Molsey.

The reception took place at Warren House in Kingston. A gorgeous venue tucked away on the Coombe Estate, the gardens are stunning with the most incredible Wisteria I have ever seen in my life (as you will see in the photos). With the late afternoon/evening sun it was simply breathtaking.

It was a privilege to have been part of such a wonderful day and I wish Matt and Sandra all the best in their future life together (and a speedy recovery for the ankle Sandra broke on the Honeymoon….)

Last weekend saw a 300 mile drive up the M6 to cover the wedding of Lou and Coenraad in the stunning surroundings of the Lake District. First port of call was the Inn on the Lake on the shore of Lake Ullswater to check out the reception venue. It was a beautiful venue with gorgeous views and certainly boded well for the forthcoming weekend!

Katherine and Richard – Wedding

This past weekend saw another journey up North to second shoot for Sam from Purelight at the wedding of Katherine and Richard at the amazing Holdenby House. The weather was stunning, clear blue skies and rocketing temperatures, just beautiful. The house and grounds really took your breath away and it was beautifully decorated for the day.

I had a wonderful day and Katherine and Richard were absolutely fantastic, even if Richard refused to try his hand at bull riding! Hopefully they are now having a fantastic time on their honeymoon.

Matt and Sandra – Wedding Rehearsal

Met up with Matt and Sandra tonight for their wedding rehearsal at St Pauls Church in East Molesey, ahead of their big day this coming Saturday! It’s come round really quickly, it only seems like last week we were trying to schedule their engagement shoot around storm warnings, house moving and Christmas! Was great to catch up and see them so relaxed and excited, the weather is looking great for the weekend and it should be an awesome day! Couple of shots from this evening first:

Esther & Robert – Wedding

This past Saturday saw me travelling 150 miles up the A1 to second shoot for the lovely Sam of PureLight at the wedding of Esther and Robert in Allington, Leicestershire.

Whilst Sam went to cover the bridal preparations I got to hang back with the guys in the pub whilst they readied themselves for the forthcoming celebrations with a quiet pint or two! (So quiet, in fact, they had to get the pub to open early!) Afterward we strolled, through the rain, up to the stunning Grade II listed Allington Manor House where the ceremony and reception were to be held.

The day was a lot of fun and we even managed to get a break in the weather to get some outdoor shots with the lovely spring blossom in the gardens.

Thanks Esther and Robert for letting me be part of your special day. I hope you are having a fantastic time in Tuscany!

Wedding Venues – Warren House, Kingston

I’ve been really busy recently, but one of the things I try to do where ever possible is get myself to venues for a quick scouting session before shooting there on a wedding day. It means I can get some ideas for shots beforehand and helps everything go even smoother on the day. I recently visited Warren House with Matt and Sandra to have a quick look around, but it was in the evening which meant that I didn’t get a chance to check out the grounds so Michael, the Assistant Manager, invited me back to have a look around during the day. It is a real gem of a venue, hidden away on the Coombe Estate in Kingston, it is a gorgeous building with stunning grounds. With the late spring this year the gardens are yet to blossom, but when they do they should be absolutely amazing. I am really looking forward to being back there in May. Sandra and Matt Pre-Wedding Shoot

I finally managed to meet up with Sandra and Matt at Bushy Park yesterday morning. We’ve been trying to sort out their pre-wedding shoot since mid November, but between severe storm warnings, house moving, Christmas and New Year it has taken a while! As it was, we managed to pick a bitterly cold, grey but thankfully quite dry February morning. Fortunately Sandra and Matt are great fun and the poor excuse for weather didn’t dampen their spirits, and despite protestations of camera shyness they were fantastic to work with. Their wedding in May at the stunning Warren House should be a really special day! Can’t wait!
